Glasgow Street Art Centre Artist in Residence Programme
(The Supporting Artists with Residencies Trust)

The Supporting Artists with Residencies Trust runs an artist-in-residence programme at the 85 Glasgow Street Art Centre in Whanganui.

The aim of the residency programme is to provide the opportunity for an artist, writer, composer, or other creative to have a concentrated uninterrupted period of time in which to research, develop ideas and/or create artworks.

The Trust aims to support artists and their creativity and to support excellence in the arts. There is no pressure to complete a body of work during the residency; as a creative you are free to use the time and studio to make work of your choice. Your project must be driven and organised by yourself.

The residencies are currently restricted to New Zealand based artists from outside Whanganui, and artists with New Zealand citizenship residing overseas.

Residencies are normally for a four or eight week period running from the first day of a calendar month, but applications for an extended residency, or variation to this will be considered.

Artists are welcome to re-apply at any time in the future.

While there is no stipend, the residency provides a well-appointed furnished self-contained flat (one double bed) together with a large studio which is for the sole use of the artist during the residency, both of which are rent free.

Power is provided free to the flat and studio for the duration of the residency. Note, there is no Wi-Fi and the residency is self-catering.

There is an etching press and kiln available for use (subject to an induction course). Artists must supply all other equipment and materials.
